Stage 1 of inheritance registration

Stage 1 of inheritance registration

  • Stage №1 (BEFORE the expiration of the 6-month period from the date of death): submission of an application by the heir and opening of the inheritance case by the notary.
    List of required documents (ORIGINALS ONLY!):
    • death certificate
    • certificate (official medical document) of cause of death
    • passport and ID code of the heir
    • document on the heir’s family relationship with the deceased (birth certificate – if the heir is a son/daughter, marriage certificate – if the heir is a wife/husband, etc.)
    • title documents on the property of the deceased (apartment, house, land plot, car, cash deposits, etc.)

Attention!

  • If the heir is unable to personally contact the relevant notary to register the inheritance, the heir can still open an inheritance case with a notary (by prior agreement with him/her) by:
    • notarization of the Statement of Acceptance of Inheritance and a copy of the death certificate with the nearest notary in the place of his/her residence;
    • sending the above-mentioned application and a notarized copy of the death certificate to the relevant notary by official mail (Ukrposhta) as a registered letter;
    • payment for the notary’s services for opening the inheritance case.

    COST: from 5000 UAH, includes:

    • processing 1-2 applications from heirs,
    • checking the state register for existing wills, the absence of an already opened inheritance case by another notary,
    • processing mandatory requests to state bodies, institutions and local governments regarding the deceased’s property

Attention!

  • After submitting the application and opening the inheritance case by a notary, it is impossible to change the notary (the law does not allow it)! Please, clarify all organizational issues and the full cost of inheritance registration before choosing a definite notary.
